The material
One material, chosen because it is the right one.
Rowmark LaserMax is a two-ply engraving acrylic: a colored cap layer bonded over a contrasting core. The laser cuts about .003″ through the cap so the core shows through as the text. The characters are not printed, painted, or applied — they are cut into the material, so there is nothing that can fade, scratch off, or peel.
It is UV stable, it holds up on outdoor and unconditioned equipment, and it is the material specified for panel nameplates and valve tags across the trade. We hold Matte Black / White in 1/16″, which is what almost every electrical and industrial job asks for, and order the other combinations in as they are needed.

Matte Black / White ships without a material lead time. Everything else is a real product we order in — it adds a few days and the +10% non-stock charge, and it is worth it when the job calls for it.

Mounting
How the plate stays on the equipment.
Tell us the surface and we will tell you which of these to use. Getting it wrong is the most common reason a plate ends up on the floor.
Adhesive foam back
Pressure-sensitive foam tape applied and trimmed to the plate. Right for clean, smooth, painted or powder-coated enclosure doors. Clean the surface with alcohol and let it flash off before applying.
Drilled for fasteners
Two or four holes at your spacing, at no charge, sized for a #6 screw unless you say otherwise. Screws are not supplied. The correct answer for textured enclosures, hot surfaces, and anywhere the plate must not come off.
Chain, wire or tie
Valve and equipment tags drilled for beaded chain, S-hook, or nylon tie, supplied with the order.
Radiused corners
Standard on tags, optional on plates. Costs nothing and stops corners catching.
Being straight with you
What this material is not for.
Two-ply acrylic is the right material for engraved identification. It is the wrong material for several things people ask about, and we would rather say so than take the order and disappoint you.
- Full-color safety signageANSI Z535 signs with color-coded header panels are a printing process on different substrate. Not this.
- Pipe markersASME A13.1 markers are printed adhesive wraps in specific safety colors. Not this either — though the valve tags that go with them are.
- ADA signageRaised characters and braille need a different material and process, and getting it wrong means re-signing a building. We do not take that work.
- Very high temperature surfacesAcrylic has limits. If the plate is going on something that runs hot, tell us and we will talk about mechanical fastening or refer you on.
If you are not sure whether something is in scope, send it over. If it is not work we should be doing, we will usually know who locally does it properly.

A panel schedule, a valve list, or a photo of what you are labeling now. Quotes go out within 24 hours, a PDF proof comes back before anything is cut, and plates ship two business days after you approve it.
